im on my lunch break from work right now and when i walked in my house i saw my mom had bought a vhs to dvd converter! this excites me because now i can take my old vhs recordings, convert them to a dvd, save them onto my computer and use finale to write score to them!! maybe its just me but i think this is amazing, im probably going to ask some people to make videos for me to write music to. first up is my friend shelby.
in the meantime ive been practicing my guitar parts for we set fire's new ep thats being recorded at the end of this month. i think were gonna call it prevail, but my parts are harder and faster than im used to and so far im getting them down just fine. its going to be something cool to look foward to!!

Writing New Music
right now im in Monterey CA with my band We Set Fire, weve only been here for one day and were already having too much fun, which is good because my parents were just starting to give me crap for missing their 25th anneversary party to go on this trip. not like i planned it this way but im doing this for god and the people who will meet him through us so maybe theyll understand that one day and get over it.
were staying in my friend Lindsay's apartment on her college campus, its a nice building and it fits us all well. so far we bought less food than we need and spent more money than we should have but for the most part we cant stop laughing at everything. i think everyone is a little more high strung than i am on this trip, i probably just need a good nights sleep. but i can definitely tell im the most focused on the task at hand, which is slightly aggravating but thats kind of my job as a senior member in this band. just gotta take charge and change diapers sometimes. thats me and stoner usually anyways but the band isnt so bad most of the time.
after we got here at the apartment, we made our way around town and then to the beach, the weather has been perfectly comfortable with a nice ocean breeze. after milling around cannery row, we stopped at bubba gump shrimp and had more fun than most of the people there bothered to have, cept for the waitress who wouldnt leave us alone and then dropped her number on the bill. lol kind of funny. after that we gathered some free samples of clam chowder and candy and went to Gherardelli *spelling?* and split a big ol ice cream fudge thing.
now were back at the apartment and just finished running through a full song, its fully written now and we only need to complete 2 more songs but it wont be fast because were still distracted by each other and are writing all of this without a live drum set which makes things slower. im determined to get this done though. mostly i just have to keep my mind on all of this and have a good time. i left this trip with a lot on my mind, but im leaving it all behind so i can get this done. its going to be amazing and people are going to be blown away.
after we write the rest of the instruments we have to fit in some lyrics which we already have a surplus of, and then name the songs and then name the album. im excited because im taking my first vocal melody in the studio on this EP. i really hope i can impress some people and create a new appeal for our name. ive been practicing vocally for a long time now and i feel ready. i kind of want to name this EP Prevail. i think the name speaks for itself as well as whats been happening in my life as this album has been in the process. but well see.
now were all simmering down, john and mike are enjoying cooperative game play of left for dead 2 on my xbox 360, theyre fighting for survival in attempt to escape from hordes of mutant zombies. they sound hilarious from the other room, while in the main bedroom stoner and i are kept company by our newest and youngest addition to the band, Logan. its as it hes taking notes on all of our actions and behaviors. its nice to know someone looks up to you in such a desirable manner.
im tired at this point and have had a long fun fulled day and a longer week. this weekend will only make memories.

starting a blog
